I once saw a video comment, where the person wrote that something was like
“perfectly popped bubble wrap without any errors.”
When I read that I was flooded with memories of being a child, sitting on the burnt orange, living room carpet, peacefully and happily popping bubble wrap from any random package.
It’s like all the tension of the wrap had built over time, and by the time it reached my hands, it was a glorious bubble just waiting to be burst. Ah…relief. And I helped that wrap relax.
The “without any errors” part was putting the perfect pressure at the center top, which gave that loud and perfectly pitched pop. If you hit it on the side, you might get a tension release, but it would fizzle out slowly, creating a sad mess of a bubble.
When grand life subjects like family, money, or sex aren’t bringing forth joy at the moment, remember the little pleasures.
Just writing this and thinking about popping bubble wrap is making me smile. What little pleasure are you really good at, where you can get lost in time doing?
What do you pop perfectly? Bask in it. It feels nice…
