Do you strive to do what you want, when you want to do it, while still being true to yourself – your authentic self? If so, then you’re striving to live freely.
But in order to have freedom, we need to feel safe.
It’s taken me a minute (okay, decades) to realize that I even desired safety. I grew up thinking I was weak and vulnerable if I needed protection. But that is exactly how I can feel the most free.
The feminine is safe to be free when she can move like the ocean, in soft and crashing waves, untamed. Why is the ocean free do so? Because there is the masculine container of the shore, the earth that grounds her.
There is a beautiful (and a little bit gory) depiction of this in the Hindu religion, when Goddess Kali is stepping on Lord Shiva. She just comes from a demon-killing rampage (she is a protector of children, after all) and tramples on her consort, Lord Shiva. That’s one interpretation.
Another interpretation is where Lord Shiva is on the ground, but content. She is protecting the world from demons, and the masculine energy protects her. He is a grounding force, to bring her back to center.
And the masculine is free when feminine energy supports him from the heart. When a man is trusted, he’ll rise to the occasion. When he knows the feminine will follow him with faith, he’ll light up and be strong and divine.
The feminine invites the masculine to act, and if every little boy was trusted when he did so, I swear there would be world peace.
This trust in him can come from any feminine energy in his life, from his lover to mother to colleague. When he’s confident and secure, he will be that unwavering container for her to dance passionately or even slay demons – freely.
