I’ve been thinking about how many of us are living in a state of fear right now, and how easily it transfers from one boogeyman to the next. There is “good” and “bad” in everything. What nourishes you, can poison you. I wrote the following piece on my Tennis Meditations blog – a reminder that you can take your power back over fear with something you see every day.
There are so many negative statements said about the sun on the court – “I can’t serve in the sun” or “I missed that overhead, because I was looking right into the sun.”
Not to mention the fear you might have about sun damage to your skin or looking old.
Let’s take it back old school and appreciate the life-giving properties, warmth, and nourishment the sun gives.
When you can be in the energy of gratitude towards the sun, the sun will help you when you think nothing is going your way.
When you’re stressed that you’re not playing well or that your opponent has nine winners and no errors, trust that you will find your way again.
Trust in the ebbs and flows of a tennis match, and if you stay the course (e.g. not trying to hit winners off of every ball because you’re annoyed), trust that the tide will turn your way, once again.
I learned this technique from Alana Fairchild’s Love Your Inner Goddess oracle cards. When you’re out of sorts, and you need to believe that everything will be okay, look into the sun and say:
I trust the light.
I am safe and held in the light.
I am the light.
Repeat as necessary. Once you can get to the point where you truly feel you and the light are one, sweating the small stuff will seem like a distant memory.
It feels good to trust. Once you let yourself do it!
