Sometimes when I’m in need of inspiration, I turn to the 13th century Sufi poet, Jalal Rumi.
The way he wrote about love and lovers is magical. Like this passage (forgive me if it’s even more beautiful in the original Persian):
“The minute I heard my first love story
I started looking for you, not knowing
how blind that was.
Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere.
They’re in each other all along.”
I could discuss this for hours upon hours. But today, I decided to be an open vessel, and see where I was guided.
I landed here in Alana Fairchild’s Rumi Oracle Guidebook:
“O my friend,
if you are longing to be written on,
become a blank page.”
That’s funny – because my intention was to be a blank page when I received the blank page guidance.
I guess I have to take a look at that.
I was just speaking about new avenues in my career – to live a life full of passion in my work, under the umbrella of security.
I interpret this Rumi passage to mean that I’ve already written the page. I’ve filled in the details, with the steps that I think will lead me to the next page.
I’ve left no room to be written on.
There are times to detail the plans, and there are times to be led to the next step.
Okay, I got the point. I often give this advice. Now, it’s time for me to take it.
If you ever find yourself in this position, where there is no flow because there’s no space for the energy you desire to move in through a jumble of ideas – try this, as I am going to do at this moment.
Close your eyes. Visualize your heart, hands, and mind open. Take a deep breath, breathing out any jumbled ideas and say (out loud, or to yourself), “I am a blank page. (Breath) I am a blank page. (Breath) I am a blank page.”
And be open to the joys of being written on.
